Pakistan observed Navy Day on Monday to pay tribute to the naval heroes of the 1965 war. The day is marked to honor those who defended the nation with courage and sacrifice against a stronger adversary.

The highlight of the commemoration is the remembrance of Operation Somnath. In this daring mission, Pakistan Navy warships carried out a successful strike on Indian shore installations at Dwarka, inflicting heavy damage.

The submarine PNS Ghazi also played a decisive role during the war, establishing itself as a symbol of naval superiority and deterrence.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif paid glowing tributes in their Navy Day messages. The President praised the Navy’s evolution into a modern, multi-dimensional force while honoring the sacrifices of martyrs and the resilience of ghazis. He emphasized its vigilance along Pakistan’s long coastline.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded the force for its professionalism and success in recent operations, including Marka-e-Haq. He also highlighted the Navy’s expanding role beyond traditional defense, such as promoting the blue economy, developing ports, safeguarding maritime routes, and providing humanitarian aid. According to him, these contributions have enhanced Pakistan’s global image.

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, in his message on Navy Day, praised the bravery of naval warriors. He reaffirmed the force’s commitment to defending Pakistan’s maritime boundaries while ensuring the protection of vital sea trade routes. He also stressed the Navy’s role in fostering sustainable economic growth through the Blue Economy.

Admiral Ashraf further announced that the second Pakistan International Maritime Exhibition and Conference will take place in Karachi from November 3 to 6.
