Pakistan has inaugurated its first-ever vascular hybrid suite at the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Institute of Trauma (SMBBIT). Officials say the facility will reduce amputations caused by diabetes, chronic ulcers, and vascular diseases.
The inauguration was led by Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho. She described the establishment of the vascular hybrid suite as a โhistoric milestoneโ for the countryโs healthcare system.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Pechuho said modern vascular surgery offered hope to patients facing limb loss. โThis facility will help reduce amputations, particularly among those suffering from diabetes and chronic ulcers,โ she said.
She credited specialist doctors for their dedication in bringing advanced medical facilities to Pakistan. The health minister emphasized that the suite would provide cutting-edge treatment options and improve patient outcomes.
Dr. Pechuho also mentioned a shortage of anesthetists at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre Karachi. To address this, a specialised training program is being launched at Civil Hospital to prepare more skilled professionals.
In addition to the vascular hybrid suite, the health minister announced plans to establish two more state-of-the-art trauma centres in Karachi. She said these centres would reduce long waiting times and improve access to emergency and trauma care across the city.
Addressing public health concerns, Dr. Pechuho also spoke about the rising number of dog bite incidents in Karachi. She noted that controlling the stray dog population falls under local government responsibilities, and relevant authorities had been informed.
The inauguration of the vascular hybrid suite marks a significant step in advancing Pakistanโs healthcare infrastructure. Officials hope the facility will save countless limbs and improve treatment for vascular patients nationwide.
