Practical work has officially begun to restore train services across multiple districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, offering renewed hope for better transport and stronger regional connectivity across the province.
According to officials, Pakistan Railways has initiated progress after receiving federal approval and has formally informed provincial authorities to coordinate efforts for smooth implementation of the restoration project.
In the first phase, authorities will begin work on a 62-kilometre railway section connecting Peshawar, Nowshera, and Jahangira, forming a critical part of the overall revival plan.
The second phase will focus on restoring a 65-kilometre stretch linking Nowshera, Mardan, and Dargai, aiming to reconnect key urban and semi-urban areas through rail transport.
Additional upgrades include reviving a 27-kilometre railway line between Mardan and Charsadda, along with an 18-kilometre section connecting Peshawar to Jamrud.
A 60-kilometre railway section between Kohat and Jand will also be upgraded in a later phase to expand the network further.
Officials stated that technical teams are being appointed for representation in the Pakistan Railways working group. Legal procedures are ongoing, while anti-encroachment operations have already started to clear tracks for rehabilitation.
The restoration project is expected to provide affordable, safe, and faster travel options for passengers. Authorities also anticipate increased commercial activity, improved mobility, and higher revenue generation for Pakistan Railways.
