Pakistan Rejects Claims of Stepping Back from Iran-US Mediation Efforts

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly rejected reports claiming it has withdrawn from efforts to mediate between Iran and the United States. The Foreign Office said the country’s diplomatic role remains active despite growing tensions in the Middle East.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan remains committed to promoting peace through dialogue. He stressed that diplomacy is the only practical solution to regional disputes.

According to the spokesperson, peace efforts may face delays but never come to an end. He said temporary obstacles should not be viewed as the end of the diplomatic process.

The Foreign Office also confirmed that the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) remains valid. Officials said the agreement continues to serve as the main framework for future peace talks between the concerned parties.

Andrabi rejected suggestions that the memorandum has expired or lost its importance. He explained that the agreement can again become the basis for negotiations once tensions begin to ease.

The spokesperson also referred to the Pakistanโ€“Qatar Joint Communiquรฉ issued on June 22. He described it as a practical roadmap for implementing the peace process and encouraged all sides to restart technical-level discussions.

The Foreign Office repeated Pakistan’s long-standing position that disputes should always be resolved through dialogue. Officials said the country’s policy has remained consistent since it first outlined its stance on February 27.

According to the spokesperson, Pakistan opposes armed attacks against any country. He said the government continues to support the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and peaceful conflict resolution.

The Foreign Office also expressed concern about the wider impact of the regional crisis. Officials warned that continued instability is affecting global energy markets, international trade, and food security.

Special attention was given to the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz. The spokesperson called for the immediate restoration of normal shipping activities in the waterway.

He said uninterrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz is essential for maintaining global trade and petroleum supplies. Safe maritime routes are critical for both regional and international economic stability.

The Foreign Office further stated that Pakistan is closely monitoring the latest developments involving Iran and the United States. It added that diplomatic engagement continues as part of efforts to reduce tensions and prevent further escalation.

The spokesperson urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint. He said military confrontation benefits no one and only increases uncertainty in the region.
