Pakistan Deploys 8,000 Troops and Air Defense Systems in Saudi Arabia

Pakistan has reportedly deployed nearly 8,000 troops to Saudi Arabia under a bilateral defense arrangement between the two countries. The deployment also includes fighter jets, drones, and advanced Air Defense Systems to strengthen the kingdomโ€™s security capabilities.

According to reports by Reuters, the military package includes a full squadron of around 16 fighter aircraft. Most of the jets are believed to be JF-17 Thunder fighter jets. The aircraft were reportedly sent to Saudi Arabia in early April as part of the defense cooperation agreement.

The deployment also includes two drone squadrons and Chinese-made HQ-9 Air Defense Systems. Pakistani military personnel are operating these systems inside the kingdom. Reports stated that the deployment is fully funded by Saudi Arabia.

Officials described the force as a combat-ready deployment rather than a symbolic military presence. The arrangement is aimed at supporting Saudi defense capabilities in case of external threats or regional tensions.

Both countries have previously confirmed that their agreement includes mutual defense cooperation. This means both sides may support each other if either country faces an attack. Pakistanโ€™s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif had earlier suggested that the agreement could extend Pakistanโ€™s strategic deterrence support to Saudi Arabia.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have maintained close defense relations for decades. Thousands of Pakistani troops were previously stationed in the kingdom under earlier military agreements. The latest deployment appears to be larger and more operational in nature.

Reports also suggested that the agreement may include naval cooperation. However, officials have not confirmed whether any Pakistani warships are currently deployed in Saudi waters.

Defense analysts believe the deployment of fighter jets, drones, and Air Defense Systems reflects growing strategic cooperation between the two countries. The presence of advanced Air Defense Systems is expected to strengthen Saudi Arabiaโ€™s protection against aerial threats.
