Pakistan is preparing to expand its labor exports significantly under the new Saudi Arabia Jobs initiative, following the signing of a landmark defense agreement between the two countries. The development is expected to deepen bilateral cooperation in both economic and workforce sectors.
Over the past five years, the number of Pakistani workers heading to Saudi Arabia Jobs opportunities has risen steadily. Between 2020 and 2024, nearly two million Pakistanis went to the Gulf region, compared to around 1.5 million in the previous five-year period.
Remittances from Saudi Arabia have also surged β increasing from $7.39 billion in 2020 to $8.59 billion in 2024 β showing the Kingdomβs strong demand for skilled Pakistani labor.
Officials believe the defense pact will further strengthen manpower exports. Currently, around half a million Pakistani workers move to Saudi Arabia each year. Authorities now aim to raise that number to one million annually. The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) is working with the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BEOE) to implement new reforms that will simplify workforce deployment.
Plans under discussion include the establishment of joint technical training institutes and an e-visa system for Pakistani workers to make the process faster and more transparent. A high-level committee has also been formed to oversee the progress of bilateral negotiations.
Saudi Arabia continues to be the largest destination for Pakistani workers and remains the top contributor to remittances β with $736.7 million recorded in August alone. Experts attribute this growing demand to Vision 2030 projects and preparations for the 2034 FIFA World Cup, which require extensive construction, infrastructure, and hospitality labor.
Pakistan is also addressing Saudi Arabiaβs labor needs through the Takamol Skills Verification Program and certifications provided by the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission across 62 professional categories, from construction to technical services.
