The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will issue the 5G license to three telecom companies later this week. This move marks a major step toward introducing next-generation mobile services in Pakistan.
According to PTA officials, licences will be granted once all companies submit the required bank guarantees. One company has already completed this step, while the remaining two are expected to submit theirs within one to two days. Each company must provide a $15 million bank guarantee as part of the 5G license conditions.
The issuance follows the second phase of Pakistan’s 5G spectrum auction, which concluded last week. Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, said the auction is expected to generate $510 million for the government. She added that the step will pave the way for commercial rollout of 5G services across the country.
Telecom companies praised the transparency and fairness of the spectrum auction. They also revealed that tests for 5G networks have already started in several urban areas. These trials aim to ensure network readiness and improved service quality once the 5G license becomes operational.
PTA Chairman, retired Major General Hafeez-ur-Rehman, confirmed that the total revenue from the spectrum auction amounts to $510 million, approximately Rs142 billion. He said the authority will continue monitoring compliance with all regulatory requirements set under the licence.
Industry experts believe that the introduction of 5G services in Pakistan will boost digital connectivity, enhance mobile internet speeds, and support emerging technologies like IoT, AI, and smart city solutions.
With the issuance of the 5G license imminent, telecom users in Pakistan can expect faster mobile networks, better streaming quality, and improved communication services nationwide.
