Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to remain engaged in the mediation process with the Taliban regime, emphasizing the importance of regional stability and peaceful dialogue. The Foreign Office (FO) made the statement during its weekly press briefing on Friday, highlighting Islamabadβs ongoing diplomatic efforts to support peace in Afghanistan.
According to the FO spokesperson, Pakistan continues to play a βconstructive and facilitating roleβ in promoting dialogue between all stakeholders. He added that Islamabadβs engagement with the Taliban regime is guided by the goal of ensuring security, countering terrorism, and improving humanitarian conditions in Afghanistan.
The spokesperson further stated that Pakistan believes in the principles of mutual respect and non-interference while maintaining open channels of communication. βOur approach is based on cooperation, not confrontation,β he said, adding that the regionβs future depends on peaceful coexistence and economic connectivity.
In response to questions about recent tensions along the border, the FO emphasized that dialogue remains the only path to resolving misunderstandings. Pakistanβs continued mediation process with the Taliban regime also aims to address issues related to refugees, trade, and cross-border movement.
Analysts believe Pakistanβs role as a mediator is critical amid increasing global engagement with Afghanistanβs de facto authorities. However, they also note that Islamabad faces a delicate balance between diplomatic engagement and addressing its own security concerns.
The Foreign Office reiterated that Pakistanβs long-term goal is a peaceful, stable, and inclusive Afghanistan β which is essential for the prosperity of the entire region.
