Pakistan has expressed its appreciation for the United States’ decision to designate the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its Majeed Brigade as terrorist groups. Officials said this move supports Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism and promote regional stability.
The Foreign Office issued a statement noting that Pakistan welcomes US terrorist designation for BLA, Majeed Brigade as it highlights the global recognition of the threat posed by these outfits. The statement added that such recognition strengthens the fight against extremist elements.
According to security analysts, both the BLA and its Majeed Brigade have been involved in multiple attacks targeting civilians, security forces, and infrastructure. The US designation means their assets in the country will be frozen, and American citizens will be prohibited from engaging in any transactions with them.
The Foreign Office stressed that Pakistan has consistently raised concerns over these groups at international forums. It also called on other countries to take similar action against groups involved in terrorism. “Pakistan welcomes US terrorist designation for BLA, Majeed Brigade as it reflects the shared commitment to counter all forms of terrorism,” the statement read.
Officials believe this step will help curb the operational and financial capabilities of these organizations. It is also expected to send a strong message to groups involved in violence that there will be global consequences for their actions.
Pakistan has been engaged in an extensive counter-terrorism campaign over the past decade. The government says that cooperation with international partners remains crucial in addressing the root causes of terrorism.
