The convicted individuals, Abdul Sattar and his son Faisal, were found guilty of Mariaโ€™s murder. Faisal, during police custody, confessed on camera, stating that he had sexually assaulted and strangled Maria to cover up their relationship. However, his claims lacked any supporting witnesses.

Following investigations, the police amended the FIR, adding charges under Section 311 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which deals with honour killings.

Additionally, another brother of the accused and his wife were detained for allegedly withholding crucial information. They revealed that Maria had shared details of Faisal and his fatherโ€™s actions with them a day before her death. Shahbaz, one of the accusedโ€™s brothers, claimed to have secretly filmed the murder while pretending to talk to another sister.

Along with receiving the death penalty under Section 302, both men were ordered to pay Rs10 million in compensation to Mariaโ€™s legal heirs. Failure to pay the amount would result in six months of simple imprisonment.
