Field Marshal Asim Munir Meets Marco Rubio in Germany To Discuss Global Security

Field Marshal Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Army Chief, met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to discuss critical global security issues, the military’s media wing reported Sunday.

Munir traveled to Germany from February 12 to 14 to attend the 62nd Munich Security Conference (MSC). The conference brought together over 1,000 participants from more than 115 countries, including over 60 heads of state. The focus was on pressing global security issues, regional conflicts, counterterrorism, and emerging threats such as hybrid warfare and artificial intelligence.

High-Level Meetings at MSC

During the summit, Field Marshal Munir held talks with Germany’s Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, Foreign Policy Adviser to the Chancellor Günter Sautter, and Chief of Defence Carsten Breuer. Discussions centered on enhancing bilateral and multilateral defense cooperation to promote peace and stability worldwide.

He also met Brazilian Armed Forces Chief Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire and Lebanese Armed Forces Commander Gen Rodolph Haykal. Both discussions emphasized regional security, strategic collaboration, and joint military initiatives.

Engagement with US Officials

Munir’s meeting with Marco Rubio focused on strengthening counterterrorism cooperation and addressing emerging global security issues. Both sides highlighted the importance of collaboration among allied nations to combat threats that affect regional and international stability.

Pakistan’s Role in Global Security

The CDF’s participation at MSC underscores Pakistan’s proactive role in international security discussions. Islamabad aims to engage with global military and policy decision-makers on critical issues, ranging from transatlantic security to conflicts like the war in Ukraine.

MSC provided a platform for leaders to debate the erosion of international alliances, energy security, and technological threats. Field Marshal Munir’s presence reinforced Pakistan’s commitment to contributing constructively to international defense cooperation.

Experts say such engagements allow Pakistan to strengthen partnerships and remain involved in shaping global security policies. The CDF’s high-level talks demonstrate Islamabad’s readiness to collaborate on strategies that ensure stability, counter terrorism, and address emerging global threats.

Through active participation in forums like MSC, Pakistan continues to assert itself as a key player in regional and international security matters.
