Pakistan’s Solar Energy Soars to Over 25% of Electricity Mix

Solar

Pakistan has achieved a major milestone in its energy sector. For the first time, solar power has supplied more than 25% of the country’s electricity. This development shows how quickly renewable energy is changing Pakistan’s power generation.

In early 2025, solar energy provided 25.3% of Pakistan’s electricity needs. This figure is higher than gas, coal, and even nuclear power. The rapid growth has been fueled by record imports of solar panels, mainly from China. Falling prices of solar technology have also made it easier for households and businesses to shift toward renewable energy.

The government has set a target to produce 60% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. With this already contributing more than a quarter, Pakistan is well on track to meet this goal. Experts believe the country could achieve its target earlier if investment and policy support continue.

Farmers and industries are also turning to this power to cut costs. Many rural areas, which once struggled with long power cuts, are now seeing reliable energy through solar projects. This shift not only reduces pressure on the national grid but also helps fight climate change by lowering carbon emissions.

Energy analysts say the rise of this is a big step for Pakistan’s economy. It reduces dependence on costly fuel imports and provides a cleaner energy option. With continued investment, solar could become the backbone of Pakistan’s electricity system in the coming years.

Pakistan’s progress highlights the importance of renewable energy for developing countries. The success of this power shows that sustainable solutions are possible even in regions facing economic and climate challenges.
