Senator Palwasha Khan has filed a complaint under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) against individuals spreading false, defamatory content online.
According to the complaint, fabricated videos and abusive posts were circulated on social media to damage Palwasha Khanโs reputation. The senator alleged that coordinated hate campaigns used gendered language, threats, and harassment to malign her credibility.
The complaint also states that fake accounts and bot networks amplified the malicious content. Specific hashtags were used to deliberately trend defamatory material, especially targeting Palwasha Khan during her official duties. The senator has requested authorities to identify the perpetrators and hold them accountable under the law.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Authority (NCCIA) is expected to review the complaint and proceed according to relevant cybercrime regulations.
The online harassment followed a heated exchange between Senator Palwasha Khan and Federal Minister for Communications Aleem Khan during a Senate Standing Committee meeting. The confrontation occurred when Palwasha Khan questioned the minister about a road allegedly built to benefit a private housing society.
Aleem Khan called the allegation a โpersonal insultโ and reacted angrily, stating that โall the dishonest people of the world have gathered in this committee.โ Palwasha Khan responded, asserting that asking questions about public funds is her constitutional right and not an accusation.
The argument escalated as both sides exchanged personal remarks. Aleem Khan warned against further personal attacks, while Senator Palwasha Khan insisted on accountability and demanded a formal ruling regarding the ministerโs conduct.
This incident highlights growing concerns over cyber harassment and the use of social media for spreading defamatory content. Authorities are now tasked with investigating the complaint to ensure justice and prevent future online attacks against public officials like Palwasha Khan.
