Urgent Alert: PDMA Warns of Heavy Monsoon Rains in KP Starting Today

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued a high-alert warning of heavy monsoon rains from August 22 to 26.

Authorities warned that extreme downpours could raise water levels in rivers, streams, and rainwater channels. Floods, landslides in hilly areas, and urban flash floods are possible.

PDMA officials also highlighted risks to weak structures, electric poles, advertising hoardings, and solar panels. Residents in vulnerable areas have been urged to take precautionary measures to avoid accidents.

Meanwhile, PDMA Punjab has forecasted similar heavy rains starting tomorrow, August 23, lasting through August 27. Flood alerts have been issued for upper river catchments. Western winds are expected to bring rain to higher elevations on the night of August 22.

Rainfall is predicted across areas including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, and Gujrat. Showers may also occur in Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, and Wazirabad. Meteorologists warn that sudden heavy rain could disrupt normal life and traffic in these regions.

Widespread rain is expected today in Punjab cities such as Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Jhelum, Lahore, and Sargodha. Some areas in Sindh, including Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Tando Allahyar, and Tando Muhammad Khan, may also experience rainfall. Meanwhile, most districts of Balochistan will continue to face hot and humid weather.

The PDMA urged citizens to stay alert and follow weather updates. Authorities have prepared for emergency response to minimize the impact of potential floods and landslides.

Early warnings from the PDMA aim to reduce risks and protect lives and property across affected provinces.
