Petrol, Diesel Prices May Fall by Up to Rs11.75 per Litre in Pakistan

The federal government is likely to announce a reduction in petrol and diesel prices in its upcoming fortnightly review for the second half of August 2025.

Reports suggest the petrol price may decrease by Rs1.32 per litre, while high-speed diesel could see a significant cut of Rs11.75 per litre from August 16. Prices of kerosene oil and light-speed diesel are also expected to fall by Rs6.25 and Rs7.11 per litre, respectively.

This anticipated change comes as international crude oil prices have declined over the past 11 days. In the global market, US crude oil (WTI) has dropped by $5.71 per barrel, from $69.26 to $63.48. Brent crude oil prices have also fallen by $5.72, now trading at $65.98 per barrel compared to $71.70 earlier.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is finalising recommendations for new petroleum rates. These will be forwarded to the Ministry of Finance by August 15 for approval. Once confirmed, the revised petrol and diesel prices will take effect from August 16 and remain in force until August 31.

The last price review brought a Rs7.54 per litre cut in petrol but saw a Rs1.48 per litre increase in diesel rates. Currently, petrol (Super) is priced at Rs264.61 per litre, while diesel stands at Rs285.83 per litre.

If the new rates are approved, the drop in petrol and diesel prices will provide some relief to consumers amid rising living costs. Experts say the decline in global crude prices could help lower transportation expenses and ease inflationary pressures in various sectors.

The official announcement on petrol and diesel prices is expected soon after the Ministry of Finance completes its review of OGRA’s proposal.
