Petrol Levy Hits Record Level As Fuel Prices Soar in Pakistan

Petrol Levy Hits Record Level As Fuel Prices Soar in Pakistan

Pakistan has seen a sharp rise in fuel prices, with the Petrol Levy reaching a record high. Officials increased the levy by Rs55 per liter, bringing it to Rs160.61. Previously, the Petrol Levy stood at Rs106 per liter.

The government raised the Petrol Levy shortly after increasing petrol and diesel prices. Petrol now costs Rs458.41 per liter, up Rs137.23, while high-speed diesel has jumped by Rs184.49 to Rs520.35 per liter. Jet fuel prices rose by 40.02 rupees to Rs517.17, and light diesel increased by 29.62 rupees to Rs395.03 per liter.

Officials say the levy hike is part of a broader fiscal strategy. For the current fiscal year, authorities have set a petroleum levy collection target of Rs1,468 billion. The government expects that higher levies will boost non-tax revenue and improve the country’s financial position.

However, consumers are concerned about the impact on household budgets. Analysts warn that soaring fuel costs combined with a record Petrol Levy will increase inflation across Pakistan. Transportation, manufacturing, and electricity costs are likely to rise, affecting the prices of everyday goods.

The latest increases follow a backdrop of global energy price volatility, partly due to the US-Iran conflict. Experts say that such global tensions, combined with local fiscal policies, have intensified pressure on ordinary citizens already struggling with rising living costs.

Many Pakistanis fear that the double burden of fuel price hikes and the Petrol Levy could strain household finances further. Economists suggest that unless government relief measures are introduced, the situation may worsen in the coming months.

Authorities emphasize that the levy is essential to meet fiscal targets and fund public services. Meanwhile, consumers continue to watch closely how these increases will affect their monthly expenses.
