ISLAMABAD — Petrol prices in Pakistan are set to increase again, adding pressure on consumers and transporters. The proposed adjustment comes amid continued volatility in global oil markets.
According to the latest notification, the price of petrol is expected to rise by Rs4.10 per litre. This would take the new petrol price to Rs384.34 per litre.
The price of diesel has also been increased by Rs6.41 per litre. Following the adjustment, diesel will cost Rs415.83 per litre.
The latest increase is expected to affect transportation costs across the country. Higher fuel prices can also increase expenses for businesses that depend heavily on road transport.
The new adjustment comes after a significant rise in fuel prices over the past month. Consumers have already faced several increases since mid-August.
On August 14, petrol was priced at Rs325.43 per litre. By September 15, the price had climbed to Rs380.24 per litre.
This represents an increase of Rs54.81 per litre within about one month. The rise amounts to nearly 17 percent during the period.
With the additional Rs4.10 increase, the petrol price could reach Rs384.34 per litre. The total increase since August 14 would then reach Rs58.91 per litre.
This would represent an overall increase of around 18.1 percent compared with the August 14 rate. The continued rise has raised concerns about its effect on household budgets.
Under Pakistan’s petroleum pricing system, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority calculates petroleum product prices. However, the government can adjust the final rates through taxes and other applicable levies.
These adjustments can increase or reduce the amount paid by consumers. The final prices therefore depend on both the calculated rates and government decisions.
The latest petrol increase could create additional challenges for motorists. It may also affect public transport operators and delivery services.
Higher fuel costs can eventually place pressure on the prices of goods and services. Transport expenses are an important part of the supply chain for many products.
