The Sindh government has announced that Photography banned rules will apply in all government girls’ colleges across the province. The decision aims to protect students from misuse of their images on social media platforms.
According to official details, the Sindh College Education Department issued a formal notification on the matter. College principals have been instructed to strictly enforce the new policy inside college premises. The directive clearly states that taking photographs of students is not allowed.
Officials said the move was taken after receiving several complaints. These complaints involved unauthorized pictures of students being shared online without consent. Authorities believe the step is necessary to ensure student privacy and safety.
The notification was issued following an advisory from the Special Secretary for Colleges. After the advisory, the Regional Director of College Education Karachi sent official letters to all government colleges. These letters directed administrations to implement the ban without delay.
Under the new policy, Photography banned rules apply to students, staff, and visitors. No photographs can be taken inside classrooms, corridors, or common areas. The aim is to stop images from being misused on platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp.
Officials revealed that in some cases, photos of female students and teachers were secretly taken. These images were later circulated online, causing distress and concern. The department said such incidents violated personal dignity and privacy.
College principals have been made responsible for enforcement. Teaching and non-teaching staff must also ensure compliance. Any violation of the policy will result in disciplinary action.
Regional Director College Education Karachi, Professor Qazi Irshad, issued a warning. He said strict action would be taken against principals or staff who fail to implement the ban. Monitoring teams may also be formed to ensure adherence.
The Sindh government emphasized that the decision is not meant to restrict academic activities. Instead, it focuses on creating a safe learning environment for female students. Officials stressed that protecting students remains a top priority.
Earlier, similar steps were taken in other provinces. The Punjab government had restricted mobile phone use in schools. District education officers were directed to enforce those rules strictly.
With Photography banned in government girls’ colleges, authorities hope to curb digital misuse. Parents and educators have welcomed the move, calling it a positive step toward student protection.
The education department has urged institutions to report any violations immediately. Further guidelines may be issued if needed to strengthen enforcement.
