PIA flight traveling from Toronto to Karachi returned to Toronto after a fire alarm warning was detected.
The warning reportedly came from the aircraft’s cargo area during the flight. The captain responded by contacting air traffic control.
Airport authorities approved the request for an emergency return and landing. The aircraft later landed safely at Toronto airport.
All 130 passengers onboard were safely removed from the plane. They were transferred to the airport lounge while officials began safety inspections.
Engineering Team Inspects Aircraft
According to PIA officials, the captain informed air traffic control soon after receiving the cargo section warning.
The pilot then requested permission to return to Toronto as a precaution. Airport authorities cleared the aircraft for landing.
After landing, the airline’s engineering team began inspecting the aircraft. Fire department officials also examined the cargo hold.
The teams were working to determine what caused the fire alarm warning.
No injuries were reported among the passengers or crew.
A PIA spokesperson said the return was carried out under standard safety procedures. The airline said passenger safety remained the main priority.
The exact cause of the warning has not yet been confirmed. More information is expected after technical inspections are completed.
Another Recent PIA Flight Faced Technical Issue
The incident follows another recent case involving a PIA aircraft.
On August 19, a flight traveling from Islamabad to Medina experienced a technical issue during its journey.
Flight PK-713 developed the problem while traveling through UAE airspace. The captain decided to return as a precaution.
The Boeing 777 was carrying more than 300 passengers and crew members.
It had already been airborne for more than three hours when the technical concern was identified.
The aircraft later landed safely at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi.
Passengers were transferred to the transit lounge after leaving the aircraft. Arrangements were then made for them to continue their journey.
Passenger Safety Remains Priority
Airlines follow safety procedures when cockpit warnings or technical problems appear during flights.
Pilots may return to the departure airport or divert to another airport when necessary.
In the latest Toronto incident, the aircraft landed without any reported injuries. Technical teams are expected to determine what triggered the cargo-area fire warning.
The airline has not announced further details about the aircraft’s inspection or the passengers’ onward travel.
