PM Orders Third-Party Audit to Validate FBR Reforms

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed a third-party review of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) reforms by involving globally recognized audit firms, ensuring credibility and transparency in the ongoing transformation.

During a high-level meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of reforming FBR to strengthen institutional transparency and economic stability. He expressed satisfaction with the newly introduced faceless customs assessment system, which has improved revenue collection and reduced processing times.

PM Shehbaz also highlighted the near achievement of Pakistan’s sustainable economic goals, attributing the progress to effective policies. He reviewed the modernization efforts of Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL) and announced the upcoming launch of a simplified digital tax return system to ease the tax process for citizens.

The meeting was attended by key federal ministers and senior officials, including the Chairman of FBR. PM Shehbaz reaffirmed the government’s commitment to rooting out corruption and fostering transparency.

Separately, FBR Chairman Mubeen Arif announced that teachers across Pakistan will benefit from an income tax rebate starting from the next fiscal year. The decision has been approved by the federal cabinet and will be part of the new Finance Bill, offering relief to educators.
