PM Shehbaz, Army Chief Asim Munir Pay Respects at Iran’s Slain Leader Ali Khamenei’s Funeral

TEHRAN: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led a high-level Pakistani delegation to Tehran to attend the reported funeral ceremony of Ali Khamenei. The visit was aimed at expressing condolences and reaffirming Pakistan’s solidarity with Iran during its period of mourning.

According to reports, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed Pakistan’s sympathies to the Iranian leadership. He also emphasized Islamabad’s continued support for Iran during this difficult time. The visit highlighted the close diplomatic relationship between the two neighboring countries.

The Pakistani delegation included Field Marshal Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. Their participation reflected the importance Pakistan attached to the occasion.

Upon arrival in Tehran, the delegation received a special state welcome from Iranian officials. The reception demonstrated the strong diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Iran. It also underlined the significance of Pakistan’s presence during the reported funeral ceremonies.

Officials said the attendance of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar represented Pakistan’s support for Iran. They added that the visit also reaffirmed the long-standing friendship shared by both countries.

According to the reference reports, Iran began a seven-day state funeral for Ali Khamenei, with delegations from more than 100 countries arriving in Tehran. Foreign dignitaries, senior Iranian officials, and mourners gathered to pay their respects during the ceremonies.

Reports stated that the coffin of Ali Khamenei was placed at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla, where official funeral events were held. Large crowds were also reported to have attended the ceremony alongside international representatives.

The reference information further claimed that Ali Khamenei was killed in a February airstrike along with several members of his family. It also stated that his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, later assumed the role of Supreme Leader. The funeral was reportedly delayed because of the regional conflict before being scheduled this month.

According to the reports, the funeral ceremonies will continue in Tehran, Qom, and Iraq. The final burial is expected to take place at the Imam Ali Reza Shrine in Mashhad on July 9.

The reported events have drawn international attention, with many countries sending official delegations to Tehran. Iranian officials also used the occasion to repeat their position regarding regional tensions and their commitment to responding to perceived threats.
