ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a reduction of Rs 4.04 per unit in electricity prices for industries on Friday. The move aims to support Pakistan’s industrial sector and boost economic growth.
Speaking at a ceremony honoring leading exporters and business figures, Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that the government’s role is to create a business-friendly environment, not engage directly in commercial activities. He encouraged input from the business community in shaping economic policies.
The prime minister highlighted that his government’s policies will be formulated in consultation with industrialists and exporters to ensure effective decision-making. “We are moving toward growth, and we will continue to value suggestions from the business sector,” he stated.
He also praised political and military cooperation, which, according to him, has opened new avenues for national development. Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged the sacrifices of ordinary citizens, particularly the poor, and reiterated the government’s commitment to driving economic progress.
The prime minister highlighted Pakistan’s recent diplomatic and defense successes. “World leaders are now approaching Pakistan with respect, and our passport is increasingly honored globally,” he said. He also announced that award-winning businessmen will receive blue passports in recognition of their contributions to the nation’s economy.
On privatization, Shehbaz Sharif clarified that the process for PIA will be transparent and accountable. He stressed reforms aimed at reducing unnecessary expenditures and improving efficiency within state institutions.
He also focused on tax reforms, emphasizing that direct taxes should be reduced while indirect taxes are collected from consumers. He highlighted the government’s priority on supporting exports, industry, and the digital sector to strengthen economic growth.
Speaking on national security, PM Shehbaz mentioned his collaboration with Field Marshal Asim Munir to resolve issues and boost the country’s defense capabilities. He added, “Pakistan will become so strong that it will make India uneasy.”
