Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the Shaheen Chowk Underpass Project and inaugurate the Gardenia Hub in Islamabad today (Friday). Officials from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) confirmed that all arrangements for the ceremony have been completed.
The Shaheen Chowk Underpass Project, valued at Rs1.3 billion, is aimed at resolving one of Islamabadβs major traffic bottlenecks. The underpass will be constructed at the intersection of Khayaban-i-Iqbal (Margalla Road) and 9th Avenue, a location known for heavy congestion during rush hours. The area houses several government offices and educational institutions, making smooth traffic flow essential.
According to CDA officials, the projectβs design ensures that vehicles traveling on Margalla Road will pass through the underpass, while the upper deck will connect 9th Avenue with nearby service roads. This structure is expected to significantly reduce traffic jams and improve road safety in the area.
The construction contract for the Shaheen Chowk Underpass Project has already been awarded, and work will begin soon after the foundation stone is laid. CDA engineers have stated that the project will be completed within the scheduled time frame to minimize public inconvenience.
In addition to this, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the CDA Gardenia Hub, a major horticulture and recreational complex located along Park Road near the Rawal Dam flyover. The facility includes nurseries, plant markets, and green zones designed to promote eco-friendly urban development.
The dual inauguration marks another step in the governmentβs efforts to improve infrastructure and enhance the beauty of the federal capital. Both projects highlight the CDAβs focus on easing traffic congestion and promoting environmental sustainability across Islamabad.
