The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts rains and thunderstorms across northern and western regions from March 14 to March 16.
A westerly wave is expected to approach northwestern Pakistan on Saturday evening, bringing partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with moderate rain, wind, and thunderstorms. Snowfall is likely over high mountains, with isolated hailstorms in districts including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Malakand, and Mansehra.
Rain and wind-thunderstorm activity is also predicted for Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Bannu, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Kohat, D.I. Khan, Zhob, and Chaman. Isolated hailstorms may occur in these areas.
PMD forecasts rains in central and eastern Punjab, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, and Dera Ghazi Khan. Rainfall may be intermittent but accompanied by gusty winds and occasional lightning strikes.
Authorities have warned that landslides may occur in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir during this period. Residents are advised to remain cautious and avoid risky travel in hilly and mountainous regions.
Another western disturbance is expected to approach western Pakistan on the night of March 17, which may again bring showers and thunderstorms to affected areas.
PMD officials urged citizens to follow local safety advisories, especially in flood-prone and landslide-prone regions, as the forecasts rains could increase water flow in rivers and streams.
The department emphasized that the forecasts rains will benefit agriculture in several regions, but the public should remain alert to sudden weather changes, particularly in northern and western Pakistan.
With multiple weather systems expected this month, PMD forecasts rains and thunderstorms will continue to impact daily life, highlighting the importance of preparedness and caution in affected areas.
