The Excise Police arrested a man in Karachi’s Naya Nazimabad area for illegally growing weed plants on the rooftop of his bungalow. The operation was carried out after officials received a tip about suspicious activity at the residence.
According to police sources, officers recovered 45 cannabis plants weighing between 10 and 12 kilograms during the raid. They also seized 42 grams of prepared weed and 30 grams of seeds from the site. Authorities estimate the total value of the recovered drugs at around Rs 60 million in the international market.
The accused, identified as Salman, has been taken into custody, and a formal case has been registered against him under the relevant narcotics laws. Police said the suspect was allegedly cultivating the plants in a concealed rooftop garden, using advanced equipment to maintain their growth.
Officials noted that this is not an isolated incident. In recent months, several similar cases have been reported across Karachi as law enforcement agencies intensify their crackdown on drug-related crimes. The Excise Police stated that they have been monitoring such activities closely to prevent the spread of illegal drug cultivation in residential areas.
A senior police officer said that growing or possessing marijuana remains a serious offense under Pakistani law, carrying severe penalties. The officer added that the department is committed to strengthening surveillance and public awareness to discourage such practices.
The Excise Department emphasized that community cooperation plays a key role in curbing drug-related crimes. Citizens are urged to report any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods to the authorities. The department confirmed that after they arrested a man involved in this case, further investigations are underway to determine whether he was connected to a larger network.
Police said they arrested a man red-handed while ensuring strict enforcement against illegal drug cultivation in the city.
