Police On High Alert As Cross-Border Terrorism Intensifies

Police and law enforcement agencies in Balochistan are on high alert as cross-border terrorism continues to intensify. According to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Muhammad Tahir, the province remains a key target for terror groups operating from Afghanistan. Despite growing threats, 99% of planned attacks have been successfully foiled through coordinated security and intelligence operations.

Speaking to Samaa TV, IGP Tahir said that terrorism from across the border continues to affect Pakistan, with recent tensions further raising the threat level. He described the ongoing situation as a β€œhybrid war,” where Pakistan’s security forces face both physical and ideological challenges.

After the withdrawal of international forces from Afghanistan, several terrorist networks redirected their activities toward Balochistan. This shift led to an increase in attacks, particularly in Quetta and nearby districts. However, IGP Tahir assured that robust steps are being taken to eliminate terrorism completely. β€œThere are concerns of terrorist activities in different parts of Balochistan, including Quetta,” he said, emphasizing close monitoring of all vulnerable areas.

The IGP also discussed the integration of the Levies Force into the police structure, calling it a major reform to strengthen law enforcement. He encouraged Levies personnel to consider the merger as an opportunity, noting that their roles would be enhanced under the unified policing framework.

Addressing welfare initiatives, IGP Tahir revealed that welfare funds for police personnel have been doubled, while compensation for martyrs’ families has also been significantly increased. These measures aim to boost morale and recognize the sacrifices of officers in the fight against terrorism.

He further highlighted the progress of the Quetta Safe City Project, which is nearing completion. Once operational, it will enhance surveillance, improve response times, and strengthen crime prevention across the city.

In addition, police have launched operations against poppy cultivation and drug trafficking, targeting criminal networks that finance terrorism. These actions underline the government’s determination to restore lasting peace and stability in the region.
