Traffic and Security Measures for New Year’s Eve

In preparation for New Year’s Eve celebrations, Punjab’s Additional IG Traffic has issued directives to limit the number of vehicles on major roads. Extra traffic personnel will be deployed on key highways to manage the expected surge in traffic.

Strict Warnings and Security Plans in Karachi

Karachi Police have also ramped up their security measures, with a strong warning against celebratory firing. Violators will face charges of attempted murder if caught engaging in aerial firing, a practice that has historically led to injuries and fatalities. Announcements in mosques are urging citizens to comply with the ban.

Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon has ordered increased patrolling, snap checks, and picketing in public spaces. A special initiative in Karachi’s West Zone has led to the collection of hundreds of licensed weapons, including pistols and rifles, to prevent celebratory gunfire.

A comprehensive security plan has been implemented, with 1,431 police personnel assigned to areas like Sea View, as well as additional officers deployed at churches and other venues. Section 144 has been enforced, prohibiting the use of firearms, aerial firing, and fireworks during the celebrations.

To manage traffic in Karachi, road closures have been announced, particularly in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area, and residents have been advised to take alternate routes.

The authorities across Pakistan are taking stringent measures to ensure safety and security during New Year’s Eve festivities.
