Islamabad: President Arif Alvi has officially accepted the resignations of Supreme Court Justices Mansoor Shah and Athar Minallah, officials confirmed on Friday. The resignations mark a significant change in the composition of Pakistan’s apex court.
The decisions by the two justices were submitted amid ongoing judicial reforms under the 27th Constitutional Amendment, which has restructured certain aspects of the judiciary. Officials stated that the resignations will be effective immediately, and the government will begin the process to fill the vacancies.
Justice Mansoor Shah and Justice Athar Minallah have both served in the Supreme Court for several years, contributing to landmark rulings on constitutional and administrative matters. Legal experts note that their departure comes at a critical time as the government implements changes in judicial processes and court structures.
The judiciary and the legal community have expressed mixed reactions, emphasizing the need for continuity and stability in Pakistan’s highest court. The government has assured that appointments to fill the vacant positions will follow due procedure.
