Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a new advisory to help citizens improve their online security and reduce the risk of cyber fraud.
As digital services become more common, cybercriminals continue to target internet users through phishing attacks, account breaches, and identity theft. In response, the PTA has encouraged people to adopt stronger cybersecurity practices to protect their personal information and online accounts.
According to the advisory, users should create strong and unique passwords for every online platform they use. The authority stressed that using simple passwords or reusing the same password across multiple accounts can make users more vulnerable to cyberattacks.
The PTA also recommended enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) wherever possible. This security feature adds an extra layer of protection by requiring users to verify their identity through a second method, such as a code sent to a mobile phone or email address.
The regulator advised citizens to avoid using personal details as passwords. Information such as names, birthdays, phone numbers, or common number combinations can be easily guessed by attackers. Instead, users should create complex passwords that combine letters, numbers, and special characters.
In addition, the authority urged internet users to update their passwords regularly and avoid sharing them with anyone. Keeping login credentials private is considered one of the most effective ways to prevent unauthorized access to online accounts.
The advisory also highlighted the benefits of biometric security features. Users were encouraged to activate fingerprint or facial recognition systems on their devices when available. These tools can provide an additional layer of protection against unauthorized access.
Cybersecurity experts often recommend a combination of strong passwords, authentication measures, and responsible online behavior to improve digital safety. The PTA echoed this message and urged citizens to remain vigilant while using online services.
The authority emphasized that protecting personal information is a shared responsibility. By following recommended security practices, users can reduce the chances of falling victim to cybercrime and help create a safer digital environment for everyone.
