The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a new advisory for WhatsApp users across the country. The authority warned that accounts linked to inactive or unregistered SIM cards may soon become inaccessible.
According to PTA, mobile numbers have become an important part of a personโs digital identity. The regulator said users must ensure their SIM cards remain active and properly verified to avoid service interruptions.
The authority explained that users whose WhatsApp accounts are connected to blocked, deactivated, or inactive SIM cards could face serious problems. These issues may include losing access to chats, contacts, and personal account data.
PTA advised citizens to immediately check whether the mobile number linked to their WhatsApp account is registered under their own name. The authority also stressed that the SIM card should remain active and verified at all times.
Officials further recommended that users shift their accounts to another verified SIM if their current number has expired or become inactive. PTA warned that users who fail to update their account details may experience unexpected logouts. In some cases, restoring access to accounts could become difficult.
The telecom regulator also highlighted the importance of biometric verification. PTA asked users to visit the nearest mobile franchise or customer service center if SIM re-verification is needed. The authority said biometric verification plays a major role in protecting digital communication services and preventing unauthorized access.
In its awareness message, PTA emphasized the need to protect personal digital identities. The authority noted that secure communication channels are essential in todayโs digital environment.
PTA also encouraged users to stay informed through its official communication platforms. Citizens can also access PTAโs digital assistant service available on WhatsApp at 0315-0055055 for guidance and updates.
