Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has warned citizens about fake courier messages and online scams.
The advisory highlights fraudulent messages designed to steal personal and financial information from unsuspecting users.
According to PTA, scammers often pretend to represent well-known courier companies. They send fake delivery notifications through messages or emails to deceive customers.
These messages may claim that a parcel is waiting, delayed or requires additional action.
PTA Warns Against Suspicious Courier Links
Fraudulent courier messages may contain suspicious links that direct users to fake websites. Scammers may also ask recipients to pay delivery charges or other service fees.
In some cases, users may be asked to provide a one-time password, commonly known as an OTP.
Sharing such information can put personal accounts and financial details at risk. PTA advised citizens not to open suspicious links received through unknown or unverified sources.
Users should also avoid sharing personal or financial information before confirming a message is genuine.
People should independently verify courier notifications before making payments or providing sensitive details.
Warning Over Foreign SIM Cards
The telecom regulator also repeated its warning about the illegal sale and use of foreign SIM cards.
According to the authority, purchasing or using such SIM cards is illegal.
The practice can also expose personal and financial information to security threats. Users may face potential legal complications if they purchase or use illegally available foreign SIM cards.
The regulator advised mobile subscribers to purchase SIM cards only through authorized channels. Consumers should visit nearby franchises or registered outlets when purchasing a new SIM.
They should also ensure every SIM card is registered under their own name.
Public Urged to Stay Alert Against Digital Fraud
Digital scams often rely on urgency to convince users to take immediate action. Fake delivery messages can appear convincing because they imitate legitimate courier notifications.
Users should therefore check the sender and verify unexpected delivery requests before responding.
They should never provide an OTP, banking information or other sensitive details to an unverified source. PTA urged the public to remain vigilant as digital fraud continues to pose risks to mobile users.
