PTI Gears Up for 'Slingshot' Entry into Capital

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is once again organizing a massive rally in Islamabad on Friday, with convoys converging from across the country. The PTI leadership, particularly its Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) chapter, is gearing up for a show of strength at D-Chowk, with Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur leading the main convoy. To counter potential teargas attacks and roadblocks, participants are being advised to bring protective gear, such as slingshots and masks, along with other supplies, including water and food.

The government, meanwhile, has imposed Section 144 in various districts, including Rawalpindi, Attock, Sargodha, and Lahore, banning political gatherings for several days to maintain public order. Authorities have ramped up security measures, including arresting PTI supporters and placing shipping containers at key points to block protestors.

The federal government, concerned about the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Conference in Islamabad, has warned of strict action against any breach of law and order in the capital.

PTI, however, remains determined to hold its demonstrations, framing them as essential to restoring democracy and the rule of law. Party Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has called on the public to join the protests, emphasizing the party’s commitment to peaceful demonstrations. However, the government is bracing for potential confrontations, particularly with the imposition of Section 144 and the deployment of military and paramilitary forces in Islamabad.
