PTI Rules Out NA Resignations, Calls Past Exit a ‘Grave Mistake’

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday ruled out any plans to resign from the National Assembly, following the Supreme Court’s verdict on the party’s reserved seats. Senior PTI leader Malik Aamir Dogar stated that leaving the assembly in the past was a serious strategic misstep that continues to cost the party. “We are still facing its consequences. Dissolving two provincial assemblies proved to be a major miscalculation,” he said.

Dogar reaffirmed that PTI would not repeat the error and will instead continue its political struggle within the current parliamentary framework. “We will fight from the floor of this very assembly,” he emphasized.

He also criticized the recent allocation of reserved seats, calling it unjust and politically motivated. “Eighty-five of our seats were effectively exchanged for reserved seats handed out like spoils of war,” he said, questioning how smaller parties with just 17 seats could justify receiving a two-thirds majority through the reserved quota.

Addressing concerns about defections, Dogar asserted, “Those who were planning to leave have already flown away — like birds bought at a heavy price. No MNA or MPA will defect now.”

He added that affidavits from the remaining 85 PTI-backed MNAs are currently being reviewed. “What is happening to PTI in Parliament is unprecedented. Such injustice has no parallel in any democratic assembly in the world,” he concluded.
