Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Amin Gandapur spoke about the ongoing negotiation saga regarding the release of party founder Imran Khan. He discussed internal divisions, criticism from senior members, and his own role in recent political events.
In an exclusive interview with ARY News programme ‘Khabar’, Gandapur acknowledged that talks largely followed Imran Khan’s terms. He accepted partial responsibility for the failure to secure his release. He stressed his loyalty throughout the negotiation saga.
Gandapur revealed that Mohsin Naqvi played a key role in negotiating the founder’s release. He admitted that his personal meetings with Imran Khan were limited, and some information from others “did not reflect reality.” Barrister Saif, he said, met the founder at critical moments, including over Senate elections and budget discussions.
The leader explained that negotiations resumed after October 5, following protests reaching D-Chowk. Terms of reference were drafted under pressure. Gandapur admitted defying instructions at Sangjani, calling it a disastrous decision. He criticized internal party groups for infighting, abusive campaigns, and spreading false narratives.
Regarding appeals to Imran Khan’s family, Gandapur questioned Aleema Khan’s protest strategies outside Adiala Jail. He said he pleaded with the founder’s sisters to facilitate his release. Gandapur warned that internal rivalries over political succession were weakening the party while Imran Khan remained jailed.
On criticism from Salman Akram Raja, Gandapur questioned Raja’s authority and emphasized the importance of acknowledging sacrifices. He also criticized overseas figures like Shehbaz Gill and Imran Riaz Khan for encouraging protests from abroad rather than leading actions directly in Pakistan.
Concluding the interview, Gandapur reiterated that the negotiation saga was conducted on the founder’s terms. While the government largely conceded, internal party failures hindered progress. He affirmed his loyalty to Imran Khan and said his political engagement would continue solely for the founder’s cause.
The leader’s statements highlight challenges within PTI and stress the ongoing importance of the negotiation saga for party unity and Imran Khan’s release.
