The Punjab government has finalized a new contract for the production and delivery of driving license cards, marking a major change in the system. The existing arrangement will expire on November 1, after which a new company will take over the process.
According to officials from the traffic department, more than 350,000 license cards are issued daily across Punjab. The new contract has been awarded to Red Apple, which will now be responsible for manufacturing and distributing the driving license cards for the next three years.
Only two companies participated in the tender process, and Red Apple was selected based on its competitive pricing and strong production capacity. Officials noted that the company can produce over 30,000 cards per day, which will help meet the growing demand for licenses in the province.
With the introduction of this new contract, authorities expect the number of daily issued cards to increase from the current 15,000–20,000 to around 25,000. This step aims to reduce delays and improve efficiency in the issuance process.
The Punjab government has also directed the company to ensure high-quality printing, enhanced durability, and secure delivery of the driving license cards to applicants. Any delay or quality issue will result in strict penalties under the new agreement.
Officials further emphasized that the new system is part of a broader plan to modernize the traffic management and licensing process. By using improved printing technology and faster delivery systems, the government hopes to provide citizens with a smoother and more reliable experience.
The transition to the new contractor is expected to begin immediately after the current deal ends, ensuring uninterrupted issuance of licenses across Punjab.
