Punjab Bans Vapes in Major Public Health Move

In a decisive step toward protecting public health, the Punjab government has announced a complete ban on electric cigarettes (vapes) across the province. The decision follows a directive issued by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz during a recent cabinet meeting held in Lahore.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized the growing concern over the widespread use of vapes among the youth, calling it a serious public health threat. “The unchecked use of vapes among the younger generation poses serious health risks. This decision has been made to protect our youth from long-term diseases and addiction,” she stated.

As part of the ban, the provincial administration and relevant institutions have been instructed to carry out a province-wide crackdown on the sale, distribution, and use of electric cigarettes. The move is seen as part of a broader strategy to promote a healthier lifestyle among young people and curb emerging nicotine addictions.

Public health advocates and education stakeholders have largely welcomed the decision, praising the government for taking a firm stand against what they describe as a growing epidemic among teenagers and young adults.
