Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced that 2,200 athletes who triumphed in the divisional competitions of the Khelta Punjab Games 2025 would receive free e-bikes as a reward for their achievements. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the games, she expressed her desire to see Punjab’s athletes excel on the international stage, and added that these winners would also be granted free entry to the upcoming Horse and Cattle Show.
In her speech, the chief minister urged athletes to remain focused on their sports and avoid being misled by elements attempting to create chaos in the country. She emphasized the importance of rejecting those who encourage anarchy and violence. “Champions must focus on their goals and avoid anyone who persuades them to engage in anti-state activities,” Maryam stated. She advised the youth to align themselves with individuals who promote education and progress, adding that Pakistan should always be their ‘red line.’

Additionally, the chief minister met with a delegation led by European Union Special Representative for Human Rights Olaf Skoog to discuss the promotion of human rights, democracy, and rule of law in Punjab. Maryam Nawaz commended the EU for its longstanding partnership with Pakistan, especially in human rights matters, and reiterated her commitment to upholding these principles.
The EU delegation pledged to continue its support for the Punjab government’s efforts to protect human rights. The chief minister highlighted Pakistan’s adherence to UN human rights mechanisms and underscored ongoing initiatives to promote the welfare of minorities, women, children, and other vulnerable groups in the province. She also noted Pakistan’s participation in the 2024 UN review meeting on human rights, where the country successfully submitted its review under the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD).
Maryam concluded by affirming her commitment to strengthening cooperation with the European Union in advancing fundamental human rights in Punjab.
