Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Approves Major Road Projects

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a series of major road infrastructure and development projects across the province after chairing a special review meeting in Lahore. The meeting focused on accelerating connectivity, improving road quality, and ensuring timely completion of ongoing schemes in both urban and rural areas.

During the session, the chief minister approved the SL-4 Lahore Ring Road project, marking a significant step toward easing traffic congestion in the provincial capital. She also granted in-principle approval for the Sialkot Ring Road segment, which will connect Wazirabad Road to Sialkot Pasrur Road, aiming to improve regional trade and transportation efficiency.

Officials briefed her on the progress of the Multanโ€“Vehari Road project, stating that base and sub-base construction has been completed while asphalt laying work is actively underway. The chief minister directed departments to ensure high-quality construction standards and strict adherence to timelines without delays or compromises.

In addition, a major proposal for the Thal Expressway was presented during the meeting. The project is designed to link Bhakkar and Layyah with the M-4 Motorway, significantly improving access to the national motorway network and boosting economic activity in underdeveloped regions of southern Punjab.

The meeting also reviewed the Rawalpindi Signal-Free Corridor project, which includes plans for seven underpasses and one overhead bridge. Officials informed that work is progressing steadily and is expected to reduce traffic congestion in one of the busiest urban routes in the Rawalpindi division.

Authorities further presented a detailed update on the provincial road sector, which currently includes 2,143 development projects. Among these, 258 are under construction, while multiple schemes under rehabilitation phases have already been completed or are nearing completion across Punjab.

Maryam Nawaz instructed all departments to ensure completion of ongoing road projects by June 30 and emphasized the importance of regular progress reporting. She stressed that improved infrastructure is essential for balanced development, economic growth, and better connectivity across all districts of Punjab.
