LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered strict action against the unauthorised use of official protocol. The directives target permanent police escorts and the illegal display of government flags on vehicles.

Under the new instructions, police escorts cannot be permanently assigned without proper authorisation. The restriction applies to provincial cabinet members, advisers and special assistants to the chief minister. Parliamentary secretaries and chairpersons of standing committees are also covered by the order.

Members of the Punjab Assembly and government officers must also follow the prescribed rules. Private individuals cannot receive permanent police escorts without valid approval. The provincial administration has been directed to ensure that these requirements are followed.

The new measures also address the unauthorised use of official flags and flagstaffs. Individuals who are not legally entitled to these privileges cannot display government flags on their vehicles. The instructions aim to ensure that official protocol remains limited to authorised persons.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed the relevant authorities to implement the orders immediately. The provincial administration has been asked to treat compliance as a priority. Officials responsible for security arrangements must review existing deployments and ensure they meet the prescribed requirements.

The provincial police officer and the inspector general of police have been assigned responsibility for enforcing the directives. They have been instructed to take immediate steps to ensure compliance across the province.

Authorities have also been directed to withdraw police escorts assigned without valid authorisation. Any personnel deployed under unauthorised arrangements must be retrieved. This process is intended to bring existing security deployments in line with the official rules.

The decision focuses on regulating the allocation of police personnel for official security purposes. It also seeks to prevent the misuse of government resources and protocol privileges. Under the new policy, access to permanent police escorts must follow the applicable authorisation requirements.

The restrictions cover several categories of public representatives and government officials. However, the reference directives do not provide details about any specific exemptions or penalties for violations. The implementation process will therefore depend on the applicable rules and instructions issued by the relevant authorities.

The Punjab government’s move places renewed emphasis on the proper use of official security arrangements. Authorities are expected to review existing deployments and remove those that lack the required approval. The directives also reinforce restrictions on displaying government flags without legal entitlement.
