Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced that electric bike distribution under the provincial E-Bike Scheme will begin on November 5. The government plans to provide 100,000 electric bikes to students across Punjab.
The initiative aims to make daily travel easier for students attending educational institutions. A larger share of the bikes will be reserved for female students, according to the announcement.
The scheme has attracted significant interest from students across the province. More than 1.2 million registrations and over 600,000 applications have been reported.
Punjab E-Bike Scheme 2026 Distribution Date
The Punjab government has set November 5 as the starting date for distributing electric bikes to students. The announcement provides an important update for applicants waiting for the next stage of the programme.
Under the E-Bike Scheme, the government intends to improve students’ access to affordable transportation. Electric bikes could help students manage their daily journeys to colleges, universities, and other educational institutions.
The programme also places particular emphasis on female students. The government plans to reserve a larger share of the available electric bikes for them.
However, the announcement does not specify the complete distribution schedule for all applicants. Students should follow official government updates for further details about selection and delivery arrangements.
Free Driving Training for Students
The provincial government will also provide free driving training to students who cannot ride a bike. Eligible participants will receive two days of training under the announced programme.
The training aims to help students learn essential riding skills. It may also support greater independence when travelling for education and other daily activities.
This initiative is particularly relevant for students who have limited access to public transportation. Learning to ride could provide them with another option for reaching their educational institutions.
Punjab Green Bus Service Fare Remains Rs. 20
Maryam Nawaz also announced that Punjab’s fully electric Green Bus service would maintain its Rs. 20 fare. This decision comes despite increases in petrol and diesel prices.
The service currently operates 700 buses across the province. The government plans to increase the fleet to 3,000 buses within the next six to eight months.
The buses provide free travel for women, students, senior citizens, and people with disabilities. They also feature air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and CCTV cameras.
Green Bus Service Expansion Across Punjab
The Punjab government plans to extend the electric bus service to all 148 tehsils across the province. The proposed expansion aims to improve access to public transportation in more areas.
Maintaining the Rs. 20 fare could help passengers manage their daily travel expenses. The planned fleet expansion would also increase the number of buses available to commuters.
Meanwhile, students are awaiting further details about the E-Bike Scheme distribution process. The November 5 start date marks the announced beginning of a programme designed to support student mobility.
