Punjab Finalizes Security Plan for Peaceful Muharram Observance

The Punjab Cabinet Committee on Law and Order, chaired by Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, convened in Lahore to finalize comprehensive security arrangements for Muharram across the division. The meeting was attended by top security officials, members of the Divisional Peace Committee, and representatives of religious scholars.

The government has barred 76 Zakireen and speakers from entering sensitive districts, while 71 individuals have been prohibited from delivering public speeches during the holy month. These measures aim to curb hate speech and maintain inter-sect harmony during Muharram.

Khawaja Salman Rafique emphasized that all preparations were made in close coordination with procession organizers, ensuring the smooth conduct of religious gatherings. “We are ensuring uninterrupted electricity and water supply along all procession routes,” he added, underscoring the logistical support being provided.

Provincial Minister Bilal Yasin announced that security personnel will be deployed on rooftops for aerial surveillance, while orders have been issued to clear hanging wires and repair roads along key routes. Malik Sohaib Bharath confirmed that these arrangements are being monitored across the province.

To maintain order, Section 144 has been enforced in Punjab from the 1st to 10th of Muharram, with pillion riding banned on the 9th and 10th. Religious leaders have welcomed the preparations, commending the government’s proactive steps to ensure peace and safety during the sacred month.
