The Punjab School Education Department has announced revised school timings for all government schools across the province. The new schedule aims to protect students during harsh winter conditions.
Officials said the revised school timings will start from January 19 and remain active until April 15, 2026. The decision follows severe cold and dense fog that disrupted daily school routines.
According to the notification, schools running on a single shift will begin classes at 10:00 am. Lessons will continue until 2:15 pm from Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, students will leave earlier at 12:30 pm.
For double-shift schools, the morning session will run until 2:00 pm. The afternoon session will start at 2:15 pm and end at 4:45 pm. Authorities said this structure ensures safe travel for students.
The department said the revised school timings will help reduce health risks linked to cold weather. Many areas reported low visibility due to heavy fog. Officials believe the new schedule will improve attendance and safety.
Teachers will also follow a new routine. They must attend school on alternate Saturdays. These days will focus on lesson planning and training sessions. The goal is to improve classroom teaching standards.
The department said Saturdays will be used for curriculum preparation. Teachers will also join Continuous Professional Development activities. These sessions will strengthen teaching skills across the province.
Education officials stressed that the changes are temporary. They will review the situation before April 15. Any extension will depend on weather conditions.
Parents and students have been asked to follow the updated timetable. Schools were told to display the notice at main entrances. Head teachers must ensure smooth implementation.
Earlier, the department had extended winter vacations by one week. That decision was also linked to extreme weather conditions.
Officials said the department remains committed to student safety. They added that learning must continue without risking health.
The revised school timings aim to balance education and safety. Authorities believe the move will support students and teachers during the winter season.
Schools across Punjab are expected to follow the new schedule from Monday. Any violation may lead to disciplinary action.
Education authorities urged cooperation from parents and staff. They said teamwork is vital to make the plan successful.
