The Punjab government has decided to purchase 25 new vehicles to strengthen security arrangements for VIPs across the province. According to official sources quoted by City 42, the new fleet will cost more than Rs. 270 million.
The vehicles to be procured include Toyota Hilux Revo G, Rocco, and 4Γ2 models. Each unit is priced between Rs. 7 million and Rs. 15 million, depending on its specifications and additional features. These new vehicles will help improve mobility and ensure the safety of VIP convoys during official movements and events.
Officials said the vehicles would be fitted with bar lights and special fabrication to meet operational and security requirements. Once ready, they will be handed over to the Punjab Police and the Special Branch to support their field operations.
Earlier this year, the Punjab government also approved the purchase of five jammer-equipped vehicles to assist in VVIP movement and high-security protocols. These vehicles are designed to block remote signals and protect against potential threats during high-profile visits.
According to official documents, Rs. 467.2 million was allocated for the purchase of two imported Toyota Land Cruisers and three Land Cruiser Prados. The tenders for these vehicles were issued after formal approval from the provincial cabinet.
Government officials stated that these steps are part of a broader plan to modernize the security infrastructure in Punjab. The upgraded fleet will enhance efficiency and help law enforcement agencies respond more effectively during high-level movements.
However, the decision has also sparked discussions about spending priorities, with some questioning the high costs involved. Despite this, authorities maintain that the purchase is essential to ensure the safety of top government officials and dignitaries.
