Punjab Government Announces No Increase in Public Transport Fares

The Punjab government and transport operators have agreed not to increase Public Transport fares across the province despite recent increases in fuel prices. The decision is expected to provide relief to thousands of daily passengers who rely on buses and other transport services.

According to officials, the agreement was reached after discussions between the Punjab transport department and transport owners. Authorities said the decision was taken in the larger public interest to protect citizens from additional financial pressure.

Regional Transport Authority Secretary Rana Mohsin confirmed that transport owners submitted affidavits assuring that fares would remain unchanged. He said most transporters had already deposited their written commitments with the department.

Officials stated that strict monitoring would continue to ensure that no operator increases fares without approval. The Punjab transport department has warned that legal action will be taken against anyone violating the agreement regarding Public Transport fares.

To implement the decision effectively, authorities have also formed special raiding squads. These teams will conduct inspections at major bus terminals and transport stands across different cities in Punjab.

According to Rana Mohsin, the transporters themselves agreed not to raise fares because they wanted to support the public during difficult economic conditions. He said the cooperation between transport operators and the government was an important step for passenger relief.

The announcement comes at a time when fuel prices have increased sharply across the country. Rising petrol and diesel rates usually lead to higher transportation charges in many cities. However, the latest decision means passengers in Punjab will continue paying existing fares for now.

Many commuters have welcomed the move on social media. Daily travelers believe stable Public Transport fares will help reduce financial pressure on students, workers, and low-income families who depend on buses and vans for regular travel.

Transport experts say fare stability can provide temporary relief for citizens already facing inflation and rising living costs. They also believe close monitoring will be necessary to ensure full implementation of the government’s decision.

Officials have advised passengers to report any transporter charging extra fares beyond officially approved rates. Authorities said complaints would be addressed immediately through enforcement teams working at transport terminals.
