Punjab IG Blames ‘Hostile Agency’ for Sialkot Shooting

In a recent press conference, the Punjab police chief addressed a heinous incident that occurred on October 11, involving a targeted attack on a Daska mosque during Fajr prayers, resulting in the tragic loss of a prayer leader, a religious activist affiliated with an outlawed organization, and his security guard.

The police chief revealed that the attackers responsible for this act of terror have been apprehended, emphasizing that this attack was orchestrated by a ‘rogue nation’ and planned outside of Pakistan. Although the police chief did not explicitly name the alleged rogue nation, he conveyed the resolve of Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies to expose this nation to the world.

Dr. Anwar, the Punjab police chief, issued a stern warning to those plotting against Pakistan, labeling them as ‘rats’ and forewarning them of the imminent exposure of their ‘evil deeds’ by the Foreign Office and other institutions actively working towards this goal.

He commended the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies, including the police, Counter Terrorism Department, Inter-Services Intelligence, Intelligence Bureau, and Military Intelligence, which not only led to the identification of the culprits but also prevented further attacks.

Regarding the attack, the police chief explained that a few individuals were killed during a firing incident at the Sialkot mosque, and the culprits were swiftly apprehended for legal proceedings.

According to Dr. Anwar, the attack had been meticulously planned outside Pakistan, with a hostile intelligence agency dispatching an individual to execute it. The authorities possess comprehensive records of the person’s activities, including meetings and geo-location. The individual arrived in Pakistan between October 6 and October 9 and carried out the attack on October 11.

The police chief promised to reveal the identity of the hostile nation in his next press conference, along with the identities of the three shooters and their facilitators. Substantial evidence, including data from Booking.com and other sources, has been collected, and it will be presented to the media and the court.

The incident involved an attack on a Sialkot mosque, resulting in the tragic loss of Maulana Shahid Latif, his security guard Zulfiqar Ali, and injury to Maulana Ahad. The police investigation has garnered evidence and statements from witnesses, and the ages of the suspects were estimated to be between 20 and 25 years.

It is worth noting that Maulana Shahid Latif had a contentious background, with Indian reports suggesting his involvement in guiding terrorists responsible for a 2016 terror attack at the Pathankot airbase in India. The NDTV report highlighted his arrest in India in 1994 on terror charges, leading to a trial and subsequent imprisonment, followed by deportation to Pakistan upon the completion of his sentence in 2010
