The Punjab government has installed 82,000 QR Pink Buttons on public transport vehicles, rickshaws, and online cabs to improve passenger safety. The initiative aims to help women seek emergency assistance during harassment incidents.

The project was launched on the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. It introduces a digital safety measure for women using different modes of public transportation across the province.

QR Pink Buttons Aim to Protect Women Passengers

The QR Pink Buttons initiative provides a way for women to access emergency assistance when facing harassment. Passengers can scan the installed QR codes in rickshaws and online cabs.

Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Rahim Sherazi shared details about the initiative. According to him, 22,000 men and women have scanned the QR codes in online cabs and rickshaws so far.

The initiative forms part of the provincial government’s efforts to strengthen passenger safety. It also encourages transport services to adopt additional safety measures for their customers.

Installation Work Continues Across Lahore

Installation teams are working at 45 locations across Lahore. These teams are responsible for fitting the QR Pink Buttons on eligible transport vehicles.

The government has assigned 12 teams specifically to rickshaw installations. This arrangement aims to support the rollout of the safety initiative across the city’s rickshaw network.

The installation process is continuing as authorities work to expand the system. The QR codes are intended to provide women with an additional option for seeking help during emergencies.

Punjab Opens Four New Rickshaw Licensing Centres

The provincial government has also established four new rickshaw licensing centres. The centres were created following requests from rickshaw unions.

This step addresses demands from the rickshaw sector while authorities continue implementing transport-related measures. The new centres are part of the government’s wider efforts concerning rickshaw operations and regulation.

Strict Action Against Non-Compliant Online Cab Services

Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Rahim Sherazi has warned online cab services about compliance with the required safety features. Services that fail to adopt these measures will face strict action, he said.

The warning highlights the government’s intention to ensure that transport operators follow the safety requirements. Online cab services may need to review their existing arrangements to meet the prescribed standards.

The QR Pink Buttons initiative represents a digital approach to improving women’s safety during travel. Its effectiveness will depend on implementation, passenger awareness, and compliance by transport operators.
