Punjab Launches Evidence-Based Traffic Challan System Across the Province

The Punjab government has officially introduced a new digital Traffic Challan system across the province to improve transparency and accountability. Under the new system, every traffic challan will be supported by complete evidence, including photographs and video footage of the traffic violation.

According to the Punjab Traffic Police, citizens will now receive an SMS alert from 8070 whenever a traffic rule is violated. The message will include a secure link that allows the recipient to view the evidence related to the offence. This includes clear images and videos captured at the time of the violation.

Officials said the new Traffic Challan process has been introduced through the Traffic Police One App. Every challan issued under the system will include digital proof. The initiative was launched on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. It is aimed at making the challaning process more transparent, fair, and convenient for the public.

DIG Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazeer said the evidence-based system will help reduce unnecessary disputes between citizens and traffic police officers. Since every challan will include visual proof, drivers will be able to verify the reason for the penalty without confusion. This is expected to save valuable time for both the public and law enforcement officials.

He added that the new system will also strengthen legal action against people who fail to pay their challans. With digital evidence available, authorities will have stronger documentation to support enforcement and legal proceedings when required.

The Punjab Traffic Police believes that the use of modern technology will improve the quality of public services. Officials say digital systems can help build trust by making traffic enforcement more transparent and reducing misunderstandings during roadside checks.

The government has emphasized that the new Traffic Challan system is designed to ensure fairness for all road users. Instead of relying only on verbal explanations, citizens will now have direct access to evidence showing exactly how and where a traffic rule was violated.

Authorities also expect the system to encourage safer driving habits. Knowing that every violation will be supported by video and photographic evidence may encourage motorists to follow traffic laws more carefully.

The launch of this evidence-based challaning system is part of Punjab’s broader effort to modernize public services through technology. Officials say digital solutions can improve efficiency, reduce paperwork, and provide faster services to citizens.
