Punjab Launches 24/7 Toll-Free Helpline for Women’s Protection and Safety

Punjab Launches 247 Toll-Free Helpline for Women's Protection and Safety

The Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA) has introduced a Helpline to provide women with immediate assistance, legal guidance, and protection across the province. The new toll-free service, 0800-01737, is available 24 hours a day and aims to help women facing different forms of violence and abuse.

According to the PWPA, the Helpline is designed to offer quick support to women experiencing harassment, domestic violence, physical abuse, or other emergency situations. The service is available at any time, allowing women to seek help whenever they need it without paying any charges.

PWPA Director General Dr. Lubna Nazir said the initiative reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to improving women’s safety and ensuring timely assistance during difficult situations. She encouraged women to contact the toll-free service without hesitation if they require legal or protective support.

The authority said the Helpline provides more than emergency assistance. Women can also receive legal advice, counselling, and protection services through trained professionals. Officials believe this approach will help victims access the support they need more quickly and effectively.

Dr. Nazir emphasized that every complaint received through the service will be handled seriously. She said all reports will be investigated according to the established procedures. The authority also assured that the identity and personal information of every caller will remain completely confidential to protect their privacy.

Officials said confidentiality is one of the key features of the service. Women can report incidents without worrying that their personal information will be shared. This measure is expected to encourage more victims to seek help and report cases of abuse.

The Punjab government has introduced the service as part of its broader efforts to create a safer environment for women. Authorities hope the initiative will improve access to support services and strengthen the response to gender-based violence across the province.

The PWPA believes that timely assistance can make a significant difference for women facing dangerous situations. By offering legal guidance, counselling, and emergency support through one platform, the authority aims to provide faster and more coordinated help.

Dr. Nazir said no woman should feel alone during times of distress. She added that the government remains committed to protecting women’s rights and ensuring that support services are available whenever they are needed.

Women who require immediate assistance are encouraged to contact the Helpline by calling 0800-01737. The service operates around the clock and is free of charge for all callers. Officials have urged women to use the helpline whenever they face harassment, violence, or any situation that threatens their safety.
