The Punjab government is preparing a major relief package for citizens under a new bikers subsidy program. Officials say the scheme aims to reduce fuel costs for motorcycle users across the province.
According to Excise Department sources, the government has requested Rs24 billion from the provincial finance department. This amount has been proposed specifically for the bikers subsidy initiative.
The finance department has now forwarded the summary to the Chief Minister of Punjab. Final approval is required before funds are released. After approval, the bikers subsidy program will move into its implementation phase.
Officials said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will take the final decision. Once approved, the finance department will release Rs24 billion for distribution. This funding will support millions of registered bikers.
Under the plan, around 12.5 million bikers are expected to benefit. Each eligible biker will receive a monthly subsidy of Rs2,000. In addition, the government will offer Rs100 per litre petrol relief.
The bikers subsidy scheme is designed to provide financial ease to daily commuters. Authorities believe it will help reduce transportation costs significantly for low and middle-income groups.
So far, more than 8 million bikers have already completed their registration. Officials say registration is still ongoing and will continue until full coverage is achieved.
Once the registration process is completed, the bikers subsidy program will officially launch. Authorities have stressed that proper verification will be done before disbursement of funds.
Government data shows that nearly 50 million motorcycles have been registered in Punjab since 1980. This highlights the large population dependent on two-wheel transport.
Officials say the bikers subsidy initiative is one of the largest targeted relief programs in recent years. It is expected to support daily commuters facing rising fuel prices.
