The Punjab government has approved the Punjab Surrender Arms Act 2025, a major step toward making the province free of illegal weapons. The initiative aims to strengthen public safety and curb the illegal arms trade across Punjab.
Under the new law, citizens have been granted a 90-day period to voluntarily surrender illegal weapons. After the deadline, strict legal action will be taken against those who fail to comply. Officials said the government is determined to ensure that every unlicensed firearm is surrendered and destroyed within the given timeframe.
Clear Targets and Enforcement Goals
According to official sources, the Punjab Surrender Arms Act 2025 sets measurable goals for recovery and reduction. Law enforcement agencies have been directed to achieve a 75% decrease in firing incidents within the next 12 months. Authorities will also review and verify all existing arms licenses over the next six months to eliminate fake or duplicate permits.
Dealer Audits and License Verification
The audit of arms dealers across Punjab has already begun. Officials are inspecting sales records and inventories to identify illegal transactions or misuse of weapon stocks. At the same time, a province-wide verification of issued arms licenses is in progress to ensure all legally owned weapons are properly registered and traceable.
Crackdown on Illegal Arms Trade
Security agencies have launched intelligence-based operations targeting the illegal trade of weapons. These operations are being carried out in collaboration with intelligence institutions to dismantle smuggling networks and unregistered firearm suppliers.
Officials warned that anyone involved in the manufacturing, sale, or possession of illegal weapons will face strict legal consequences. The Punjab Home Department will monitor the progress and submit detailed reports to the chief minister to ensure the actβs full implementation.
This large-scale disarmament drive marks a key step toward improving law and order and ensuring a safer Punjab for all citizens.
